Church History
Bethany Church was started by a group of Norwegian Christians. In 1934 the church was formally organized as "The Bethany Evangelical Free Church". Property at 30 Ashwood Terrace, West Orange, was purchased in 1940 and the church building was completed in 1941, with much of the construction being done by carpenters in the congregation. Since then, two major additions have taken place. Sunday school class rooms and office space were added and then an expanded sanctuary, gym/fellowship hall, library, new kitchen and new study were added. Many years of God’s blessing! Those Norwegian immigrants looked to the future when Bethany was new, confident that God would continue His mighty work in their lives and the lives of their successors in this church. Over the years Bethany has seen many changes - changes in Pastors, programs, and music - but the same message: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Today Bethany is a multi-cultural church praising the Lord for His faithfulness to us and looking forward to the opportunities and challenges ahead as we carry the Gospel to our community.
